Happiness is better experienced when itâs shared between people alike. Thatâs why we have friends. So we could share our best & worst moments with them. But not all friends are beneficial. Some simply pretend to be your friend just because of what they stand to benefit from you. They are like parasites constantly feeding of on your good will and kind heartedness.
In the previous series of âFinding Happinessâ, we spoke about why you should choose your friends wisely. As we all know, choosing our friends is not an easy task. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we become friends with people based on circumstance and not by choice.
This solely hinders us from sieving out the wheat from the chaff which we really need to do, as picking the wrong friends and committing yourself to a relationship which is clearly one sided would not only reduce your chances of happiness but also increase your chances of unhappiness. And we clearly do not want that.
Genuine friends are hard to come by. Itâs a rare thing these days to find someone who would be by your side a 100% no matter the circumstance. People drift in and out of your life, but good friends remain with you until the end. But in a world filled with pretense, how do we really know when we have a true friend?
You feel good around them
Personally, I canât be friends with someone who canât make me feel alive when we are together. We need to be friends with those who will fill our lives with happiness and positivity. Where others judge you, they donât. Where others bring you down they are there to lift you up. They always know what to do at the right time and can read your kind of person. They know how to cheer you up and try as much as possible to eliminate any form of negative vibes around you.
They Disagree With Us
Wouldnât it smell fishy if someone always agrees with whatever you say, without ever having a second opinion or advising you otherwise? Although not all advises are worth considering but be wary of those who pretend to have your goodwill at heart by always agreeing to whatever you say. They are probably trying to be on your good side because of what they stand to gain from you âParasitesâ.
Real friends donât let us get away with things we could improve on, if weâre wrong, theyâll have no problem in letting us know.
They Support And Encourage You
âIf you have nothing in life but a good friend, youâre richâ- Michelle Kwan. In a world full of critics and naysayers, we often count on our friends to support us, and to tell us not to give up and chase our dreams. If youâve got a friend who constantly tells you you canât achieve a particular dream and tells you not to even try, then you should be concerned.
We should be wary of the kind of company we keep. True friends want the best for us and donât hold us back. Theyâll go out of their way to see that we accomplish a certain goals and when eventually we do achieve success, theyâll be the happiest of everyone.
