Halloween spending will hit a record $9.5 billion, according to the National Retail Federation, which surveyed shoppers with research firm Prosper Insights & Analytics. Those pumpkin-themed purchases will surpass by 8.6% the previous all-time high of $8.4 billion spent on Halloween in 2016.

In halloween is a major money-spinner for supermarkets and has become the UK’s second largest retail festival after Christmas. An estimated 15m pumpkins are grown in the UK every year, with 95% carved into hollowed-out lanterns for Halloween and 5% used for soups, stews and pies.
