Many people light up pumpkins for Halloween but they are tough to cut and worse to carve. Citrus fruits are much easier. Why not give it a try?

You can use oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits. The lovely, acidic colours look fantastic together. Plus, you get to eat the flesh!

You'll need:

  • Candle wax, beeswax or soy melts.

Ordinary white candles like these are suitable:

More things you need to make citrus candles:

  • Chosen citrus fruit - lemon, lime, grapefruit or orange

  • Microwave-safe bowl

  • Spoon, scissors, sharp knife

Method:

  • Cut the citrus fruit in half (crosswise).

  • Trim off a thin slice from the bottom of the fruit. It will then sit flat on the table when finished.

  • Scoop out the flesh to make a 'citrus bowl'.

  • Take a wick and place it vertically in your citrus bowl.

  • Put your wax in the microwave-safe bowl and heat until melted.

  • Pour the melted wax into the citrus bowls with wick positioned vertically in the center.

  • Hold the wick upright for about 30 sec while the wax hardens.

  • Let the candles cool completely before using.

These are fun to make and look lovely when burning!

Happy Haloween!
