My ranked weekend. Gods Unchained!!

What's going on good people! I am a massive fan of Gods Unchained and this weekend I decided to give a bit of an insight into my amateur brains' attempt to get results and results of a weekly ranked weekend experience. I am by no means a top-tier player but that doesn't stop me from having a blast trying my best and attempting to improve and interact with other community members in regards to our ideas and plans or results of the ranked weekend. I play for Team [Fëanor] and we are just a very happy, interactive community of players ranging from new and OG Gods Unchained players. We don't give a fuuuck how good or bad you are or think you are, we just like to have fun, and having some really solid people around you can make the entire experience with this game so enjoyable.

So heading into the weekend I am usually very big on playing my deception decks, this week I went on a little adventure outside my comfort zone of gameplay. I started the weekend a little poor by standards at Solar gold which is rank 10 (closer to the top but no peak) I just didn't have the time to regrind mythic rank after deck testing new ideas all week. I went with nature as the latest god power change really interested me in terms of how it can be aggressive and defensive with a 1 dmg to a random enemy and 1 heal for our god. Really fun idea for a god power that seems balanced in its current state.

I managed to pick up a Legendary Finnian Fruitbearer card which feels so AMAZING to have in my deck, this was all thanks to a good friend of mine Grandmast3rr. The other new card I managed to acquire was thanks to a very dear friend of the community Bessagod, she was a kind soul who sent me some Jaguar staffs to borrow for my ranked games :D Very much appreciate all the help from this community, just so generous. Overall my deck is built to try to hold an earlier board and keep control through to mid-game where I will hopefully bash your face in enough to be done and dusted with the match before it gets into the later game. Prior to this image, I had played some matches without those cards which was a terrible idea because I performed rather meh in terms of in-game choices. But once I had this 30 card deck I pulled in a 62.5% win rate.

I like tweaking my decks as I play sometimes to suit meta changes or unexpected decks/gods being played that my deck might not do as well against in their current state. So on to changing up my deck to improve the results and feel of the deck for myself. I wasn't really getting any value out of a usually go-to card I like called Sip from the Spring. Just wasn't getting the first turn or pulling bad draws, even if I managed to go first it just didn't seem to do much for my in-game progression.

In comes the replacement Firewine, I wanted the board I was still holding to have a bigger punch to maintain control and damage output as I was lacking some removal at 3 mana cost so this was my solution to make up for that a couple of turns later. Being able to have 3-4 creatures on board with lower attack damage than the 4-5 mana creatures being played against me at this point Firewine really did hit a nice sweet spot for me. the extra 2 strength and overkill! overkill really worked well at picking off other enemy board creatures with excess damage. After 6 games I ended up wanting to mix things up again, I really am harsh on my decks when it comes to performance, I like to keep gaining momentum, however, I don't like to fix what isn't broken. Just things that suddenly are starting to have no use to me against players and decks I am coming up against as time goes on.

you would think I was happy with how things were going, I was getting closer to finishing up my ranked weekend and I really wanted to hit those ranked weekend reward tiers. I wanted to hit at least 16 wins and I wasn't convinced I could do it with what I had heading into my last couple of matches, sitting at 14 wins of 23 games. I had to win my last two matches in order to hit the next reward tier, 1 win would not be enough. I ended up actually swapping out the firewine, which I did really well with, and also dropped one of my 6 mana board control spell The hunt. I had been coming up against some rather aggressive decks and mirror matchups where sometimes I was just not drawing well enough in time so my solution to this was to get those extra creatures onto the board earlier and just punch them in the face faster than last time. This was in turn the right choice (lucky me) as I went on to finish up my ranked weekend at 16 wins of my 25 games. It wasn't even a close contest in my last 2 matches, the extra aggression really forced the other players into difficult choices when it came to trading creatures efficiently or just hitting face instead. I am overall pretty happy with how it all played out this weekend, I just need to be a little more patient in the future ranked weekends to focus on hitting 20+ wins.

After finishing my weekend a good friend of mine in the GU community was streaming and I went over to show him some love and we discussed what happened with my ranked weekend and why I had my deck built the way it was. Having this honesty from other players when discussing deck theory or results and choices made really does benefit everyone. You can see and hear other options you may never have considered and take that information into future weekends to really keep on that push and grind. This is my boy Jomigloy, an awesome dude who owns a cat apparently (hello cat I never knew about) this little talk actually really got my boy hype as fuucck to get onto his ranked weekend games and go through his deck which was also going to be a Nature deck.

This man Grandmast3rr what a fun damn night I had sitting in his stream all night while I was doing my weekend ranked games. This dude was on a serious push for the top 10 and at the time of writing this, I can see that he finished 3 with an amazing 22 wins of 25 games. So shout out to this motherfucker for really throwing out the good vibes whilst also playing his own ranked weekend matches. He played whale status board Wipe Death though sooo maybe we just ignore that because fuck sleep and demo's haha. Grats my dude, slaaayed it, huge stream, and massive balls on that ladder now.
