E.T.A. Hoffmann as a novelist /last part/

Hoffmann who feels this character as his "alter ego" pursues him continuously with his vigilant self-irony. He suddenly cuts off the novel without bringing to a close the numerous intrigue that intersects with him, and to bring some soothing explanations about the subsequent fate of the heroes. The only real actor in this work is composer Johann Kreisler, whose painful sincerity does not tolerate any ridiculous interpretation, that is, The novel "The Tomcat Murr " should be perceived as fantastic, full of self-irony, Hoffman's biography. If the creator is not confident in himself, his absolutist ambitions in art can lead him to madness and death.

The romantic writer follows in his work through the compositional technique commonly used in the music - the counterpoint, the life of a lazy cat, the symbolic animalistic personification of the self-satisfied bounty, and the tense existence of the art-devoted man. In the understanding of the central character's life philosophy, Romantic Hoffmann dwells indisputably on his cherished views of human existence. He urges us to perceive his hero as a "genius" but not a real genius, but rather an unfortunate and failed genius whose madness we should give to his over-developed and unrelenting imagination, unsuccessfully finding the shape, in which to pour out its ideas. Chrysler is the victim of his unhappy love, as his creator has suffered for a lifetime his failure as a man - Hoffman is passionately in love with the beautiful girl Julia Mark. The writer falls in love with his fifteen-year-old student when he is already thirty-five and is married for nine years. He is so enthralled in his sentimental affection for her that, in jealousy, he fights with her official fiancé. This scandal is a reason to stop his meetings with Julia, but his love for her continues to inspire him as a writer until the end of his earthly days.

The same passionate love enthusiasm urges Hoffman to rethink the image of Don Juan in his novel of the same name, and the memory of his beloved urges him to write "The elixirs of the devil" . In this work, the writer uses the motif of the dualist who came to life in the Romantic era to tell how the last descendant of a family is forced to redeem the crime once committed by his eminent grandfather. Hoffmann created during the last period of the development of German literary romance. He discovers new horizons of unfolding creative fantasy in the bosom of German exquisite words. This late romantic gives a new status to the seemingly selfless thoughts of fantasy in the narrative, novella and novel. He creates a multi-faceted, dark and threatening, fictional world filled with jealousy and puppets, with characters who split up and oppose themselves in distinct opposition to one another. This German romantic is the first character of the "The Seraphion Principle", thanks to which the writer could accurately highlight the image that had grown into the depths of his mind, taking into account his shapes, colors, lights and shadows, and presented it by translating it into the outer world. Hoffmann enjoys a prestigious position in the history of the German literature as a founder of the so-called "the subject of a more and more legitimate critical objection" whose famous names the new German literature is Theodore Storm, Thomas Mann and Franz Kafka.
