Genetically modified plant becomes a luminaire

Combining genes from bioluminescent bacteria usually ornamental plant called Nicotiana alata , scientists have created the first biological source of interior lighting, writes io9.

Called Stralight Avatar , the plant is a product of Bioglow , which has already auctioned first bred specimens and collect pre-orders for the next. Although there are many types of glowing algae and animals, the company says that these are the first glowing plants.

They do not emit particularly strong light, but represent a step towards the creation of other types of GMOs, which can effectively be used for decorative lighting in homes.

Can you imagine one day future inhabitants of the cities to grow and watered lights instead of bulbs change?
