First task of course is harvesting all the tomatoes that are ready and cut them into smaller pieces. Even though this time we had less amount of tomatoes, I think we will still be able to get 10 liters or so of tomato juice.
Next step is processing tomatoes in the machine that is not too big so this takes some time together with emptying the tray with the juice and plate with the leftovers. On the right photo you can see this huge pot (or whatever you call this thing lol) where tomato juice will be boiled and prepared.
Collecting all the grass bottles and jars over time always come in handy for all the homemade goods so we pulled out some bottles, washed them and let them drain. In the meantime, tomato juice is cooking nicely. Last thing is pouring the end product in the bottles and then we place a blanket in this orange tub, out the bottles in and let them sit until tomorrow before storing them on the shelf in our basement.
Here is what the tomato area looks like after harvest. There were some overripe tomatoes that we didn't harvest, some were not ripe enough and there's still green ones that we will use for salads in the upcoming days/weeks. Once the tomatoes are gone, garden will look almost empty as this veggie (fruit) takes up a lot of space. It's always a bitter-sweet time when the gardening season is coming to an end as I really do miss gardening and all the fresh produce we get but it's also nice to harvest everything and prepare for the upcoming months, especially for winter. So I'll try to look at the bright side! :) I also like to thing that the garden is taking a much needed rest during the colder months so it can do even better next season!
