I was walking in the UNC Chapel Hill campus yesterday and came upon some veggies growing next to one of the libraries.
It turns out, UNC is doing this initiative called the Edible Campus. Read more about it here:

Basically, people volunteer to take care of some vegetables growing and the produce is available to anyone who would like to pick it as they are walking by. I think this is a very clever idea!
Here's some photos from my stop. I only visited the one location but apparently they have many. I may have to take some time and walk the campus and visit all of the locations.
