FORTNITE'S COMET EXPLAINED

The Fortnite community has noticed an entrancing blue light that's shown up in the sky recently. Some say its been getting progressively bigger, as if its getting closer. A distinct tail coming off the light have led many to the conclusion that what they are seeing is a comet. That's not it though.

The entire third season of Fortnite has been very space themed so far. Astronaut suits and high tech gliders can be purchased and let players feel like space cadets. A comet would certainly fit this theme as well.
But so would a space ship.

You see its not a comet that has been hurtling itself towards the island, its an alien space craft.

Some fans have theorized that the comet will hit the map and completely reshape the landscape, giving players a new environment to roam around. While this idea is enticing, it doesn't seem likely. Epic has mentioned its commitment with fleshing out a single map, so blowing up all their hard work with a comet seems a little counterintuitive. A UFO however could help reshape the game in other ways.

The save the world mode in Fortnite is drastically under-appreciated. Many players don't even know it exists. Akin to the Horde mode in Epic's Gears of War franchise, the save the world mode was originally the main focus of Fortnite before the battle royale craze hit and the development team decided to pivot the direction of the game.
You can play the save the world mode now, but most people don't even bother. Partly because the battle royal mode is so gosh darn good, but mostly because unlike the battle royal mode, save the world isn't free. If that were to change the mode would undoubtedly get more play.

Here's whats gunna happen:
The UFO will get closer and closer throughout season 3. It will land at the beginning of season 4 and mark the beginning of a revamped save the world mode where aliens have invaded and you must defend the world against the attack. Perhaps the impact of the landing will restructure the map to some extent, but that won't be the main function of the event. It will mark the beginning of Epic focusing their efforts more on building other aspects of the game instead of just the Battle royale mode: a trend that is on fire right now, but will likely exhaust itself in the near future. Furthermore, save the world will become free.
New skins and gliders will be alien themed, and there might even be some fancy new alien weapons added to the game like a ray gun or two, and personally I couldn't be more excited. Easter eggs are some of the best parts in any game, and one right in front of everyone's face is too good to pass up.

The blue light in Fortnite's sky is no mirage. It's there and it can't be ignored. And sooner rather than later it will reveal it's secrets. Lets just hope they come in peace...
