Lemmings - GBA

Welcome to my new series on Steemit. It is surrounding something i love to do as a hobbie and that is playing retro games from the old school games consoles which i played as a kid. I have managed to get a Gameboy emulator and a Sega Megadrive emulator on my Iphone along with a ton of games to play on these.

In this series i will be playing a variety of different games from the different consoles i have available to play and i will be doing a small review and scoring the games based on a scoring system i have compiled. This will then place the games into a league table so we can see what the ultimate retro game is out there.

I have put together a small league table to start with but with your help i will look to improve on this and add to it to put together a detailed and in depth chart for as many games as we can go through.

The categories i will be rating the game on are below:

Gameplay - I will be rating the gameplay of the game out of 10. This will be the ease, smoothness and how it is played in my opinion.

Storyline/Career Mode - I will be rating the Storyline/Career Mode out of 10. this will be the main game mode from the game.

Controls - I will be rating the controld out of 10. this will be the ease of the controls and wether or not you can do what you need to do with these.

Visuals - I will be rating the visuals out of 10. This will be what the graphics of the game are like.

Music - I will be rating the music from the game out of 10. This will be what the background music, sounds and chat are like withing the game.

Enjoyment - I will be rating the enjoyment out of 50. This will be in my opinion how much i enjoyed playing the game.

So todays episode i will be playing Lemmings on the Gameboy advance. A slightly different game to the previous games ive been playing but i want to go through all different types of game throughout these series. I have played this game before again as a youngster but never on the Gameboy advance, this was always on the PC and not the PC's we have nowadays.

The Gameplay of this game is exactly as you would expect for a game released in 1991 and to be fair it does what the aim of the game is so you cant complain to much. The aim of the game is to complete the tasks given to you and get the amount of Lemmings into the end gate by way of using special moves which you can give to individual Lemmings. Some of these special moves include digging, parachuting and blocking. If too many lemmings are killed, then you don't complete the level. 4/10

The storyline/career mode of the game is basic but good. You work your way through the levels and they get harder and harder the further you get. The first few levels are fairly basic and you only need to get 1 Lemming home with 10 available and its a way of getting you used to the moves and the controls. You can restart at another time by entering the level code once completed as it was a bit before the save feature was brought into games. 4/10

The controls for this game are very good and easy to use as you use the D pad to move around the map, hold B to bring up the special moves and select the Lemming to use with the A Button. On a negative, it would be easier if you could zoom in and out of the map but this may of been before these options were available. 6/10

The visuals on the game are not great, the graphics are very poor and is very hard to make out really what the Lemmings are. Black and white games are always tough but when they have tried to put detail into the lemmings also it makes it very rough. The detail on the levels to be fair are decent. 3/10

The music on this game is again poor and very annoying. There is only really one sound in the music and again i put this on silent very quickly. would recommend you do the same as it will put you off the game. 2/10

In general, this is very fun game to play and very addictive and you kind of want to keep playing just to see what the next level brings. Once you start losing levels you just want to defeat it and give it another go. The only annoying aspect is the music and the poor graphics which kind of takes the enjoyment down slightly. 39/50

Overall Score - 58/100

Lets take a look at where this places the game on the leader board after episode 3

So its not quite enough to hit top spot but a very good game and would highly reccomend playing it if you ever get a chance.
