A CSGO Skin just sold for over $60,000

Which do you think would be worth more? A new Mercedes Benz Hatch, or this in-game digital sniper rifle?

In the wake of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston, hype surrounding the victory of Cloud9 over FaZe has been at an incredible high. So with Skadoodle being dubbed the MVP of the tournament, it's only natural that a skin signed by him would sell at a higher price. The actual sale, though, ended up being record breaking: $61,052 USD.

If you're unfamiliar with Counter Strike: Global Offensive's, or CSGO's, economy, it might seem absurd that someone spent enough money to buy a new car on a digital skin. However, these skins are actually very valuable, and owners can quickly sell them on CSGO skin sites for thousands of dollars. This particular skin, the Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore, is among the most valuable items in the game. Beyond that, though, this particular Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore has been imprinted with the signature of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston MVP, Skadoodle.

Players can find items like this themselves by finishing CSGO matches, by watching live tournament matches, or by purchasing a key and opening a weapon case. The odds of finding a gun this valuable, though, are extremely low.

The skin, which was sold on the digital item reselling site OPSKINS, went for around double the usual price of the Souvenir Dragon Lore. It is not necessarily the highest value CSGO trade ever made either, as many notable figures of the CSGO trading community claim the existence of a trade involving $100,000 USD worth of items. However, this is certainly the most expensive purchase involving real money on OPSKINS.

This record breaking sale is a favourable sign for CSGO's traders and players alike. The CSGO trading scene has been embroiled in controversy for much of the past few years — primarily regarding the major skin gambling sites which Valve forcefully shut down in the middle of 2016. Many traders were worried that the loss of gambling sites would lead to skin prices plummeting, with the feared conclusion being the death of trading as a whole.

These fears have been proved unfounded, marked today with the $61,000 AWP sale. Players still sell items for thousands of dollars on the Steam Community Market every day. This new record high sale price is demonstrative of the market's success. The ELEAGUE Major: Boston reached a staggering 1.8 million peak concurrent viewers, a reminder that the game is still immensely popular. The Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore sale, on the other hand, is a reminder that the game still has a thriving community supporting it financially.

CSGO has been around for almost six years now. It has had times of success, and it has had times of controversy. This last week, though, has shown us both one of the most lauded Grand Finals of all time as well as one of the biggest skin sales of all time. Things are certainly looking up for CSGO right now. Wherever the game is headed from here, its future seems about as bright as this Dragon Lore.
