Top Tips for Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter might be the most welcoming entry into the popular franchise but that doesn’t mean everything will always go smoothly. The game, although not having the most steep learning curve still provides a challenge to new players, a few tips to help the inexperienced players out wouldn’t go amiss.

Try a range of weapons

There are 14 different weapon types to choose ranging from close range melee weapons to the few ranged ones, there’s even a set of magical bagpipes to try. It’s definitely worth trying the different weapons to see what feels best to you, everyone has a different play style and every weapon represents a different way to combat the monsters. Some monsters would also be an easier matchup with different weapons, so swapping out every now and then is the way to play early on.

Prepare before every hunt

Always make sure you are stocked on all essentials before going out to hunt a monster, this means potions, ammunition, mega potions, antidotes and even traps. You can also be served up a meal by the bases feline chef or rustle one up yourself which will give added benefits to a number of different stats to help in your hunt. Also an easy thing to forget would be to check the supply box when you have dropped into your location to get a supply of free potions and sometimes some mission-specific items.

Follow the scoutflies

A new feature in Monster Hunter World are the scoutflies, they show a bright green trail to whatever monster is being tracked. First though you have to find prints, markings, other tracks left by the monster, the scoutflies help find these aswell. The scoutflies show you the quickest route to the monster which is sometimes very useful when the hunted monster tries to flee.

Collect Everything

As you journey through each zone you will see many plants and other collectible items, these can always come in handy in the future. To craft potions, nutrients, antidotes and many other useful items. Thankfully everything can be picked up whilst running around which makes gathering things easy.

Don’t rush with new monsters

Every monster is a little different meaning encountering and fighting a new one will always prove difficult. Always try and avoid tackling the new monsters from the front and always keep moving, every beast has its own traits and movement patterns. Observe the monsters behaviour from a distance before tackling it and work out the best plan of action. This is better than fainting and having to keep retrying, although that is likely to happen sometimes, failing then returning to succeed is all part of the fun in Monster Hunter World.

Overall though make sure to take the game at your own pace and enjoy the exploring, the collecting, the hunt and everything inbetween.
