The English language is a funny one we use words everyday but meanings change as we go on for example " sick " could mean " oh I do feel a bit ill , I could be sick any minute " but now it could mean it's great or cool !
So are some words that have lost there original meaning and some old words that should make a comeback !
Lucifer- no not that Lucifer ! it is actually a match that self ignites on any surface.
Go - cart is actually a baby walker.
Goody - not in the terms a sweet , it is a older lady of humble position.
Halt - did mean lame.
Host - not as in host party or game show but army.
Jade - did mean a bad tempered woman - that would be me I guess !!
Marry - not in wedding terms was meant as expression of surprise, indignation, or emphatic assertion.
Meet meant suitable or proper.
Neat - a bovine animal.
Pale did mean a area of jurisdiction.
Receipt meant a recipe.
Repair - a abode.
Shambles meant a slaughterhouse.
Truck -not the one people drive but did mean a exchange/ transaction.
Uncle - no ,not your least fave relative but a pawnbroker !
Waits - Christmas carols sung on the street.
Wife - could mean your beloved but did mean a old woman and possibly uneducated !
Now some words that should make a comeback-
Trumpery - articles of little use or value.
Varlet - unprincipled rogue.
Tapster- person who works behind a bar or pub.
Slugabed - a lazy person who stays in bed.
Sippet- a small piece of bread for dipping into soup.
Scot - some sort of tax payment.
Pythoness- a lady who can see into the future.
Prithee - please.
Gadzooks- a expression of annoyance or surprise.
