Over 400 Steem has been Randomly Given Away!
What is This? You've just been Giving out Steem?!?!?!
A couple weeks before Christmas, I started asking random trivia questions in steemit.chat. The whole idea behind this was to give some random fun to people who hung out in the #general channel in there. I know how serious we can all get with posting, reading, commenting, voting, life, etc that I wanted to take about 15 minutes to just let everyone have a good time and for some winning some nice chunks of Steem. Each trivia prize was awarded 5 Steem, which for a while was worth between $20-$30 US...and people could win up to two of these! Not bad for a couple correct trivia answers!!
Wanting to have these 'fun and games' giveaway cover as many people as possible, I've since:
- Started rotating the trivia challenges between Steemit.Chat #general and the Trivia Discord Channel due to many people having issues getting into the chat room.
- Donated Steem to @topkpops "All Play Friday" radio show (8-10pm EST) to be prizes for runs trivia and any games she thinks of
- NOTE: This is the ONLY set time of a giveaway.
- Donated Steem to @steemsausage to run trivia for those in opposite time zones from me (Yes...I have to sleep, lol.)
- Started running impromptu 1 Steem giveaways to people watching in steemit.chat, #Whaleshares discord, #minnowSupportProject / PAL discord and #TeamGirlPowa discord. (First 3 people to type a specified number in chat.)
The Goal of all this...
...was to cause some random fun and excitement for people, outside of their Steemit posts! The responses have been overwhelmingly positive, having tons of people participating and coming back for more. However, since I don't do this at set times...people have to catch these events by either:
- seeing my announcement post 60 minutes prior to starting
- catch an announcement in chat/discords (I drop messages that we'll be starting)
- or just hang out in the chat's a lot.
This is purposely setup as a slot machine, having random occurrence with random outcome. It's the most motivating method of keeping people engaged and excited.
NOTE: Everyone has been and is free to participate. No upvoting, resteeming, comments...NOTHING...is required outside of showing up. I truly try to keep this all as fair and transparent as possible for all parties involved.
Where has the Money Gone?
At the beginning all Steem prizes were fully out of my pocket, usually giving out 10-20 Steem a week. However right around Christmas time a couple of Steemians graciously donated some larger chunks of Steem towards the Trivia Challenge prize pool. I wanted to give a HUGE THANK YOU to :
@riverhead - 500 Steem donation
@pharesim - 100 Steem donation

This was when I started keeping track of how much was given out as prizes and to whom. As usually I want to be as transparent as possible, especially for those who graciously donated, so it's easy to see that the Steem is being put towards it's intended purpose. All these people below were awarded 5 Steem for answering each trivia question. (There was one time I split the prize.)

How Much Longer can this Run?
As it sits, I estimate I can keep the current frequency of 3-4 events per week, for about another 1.5 - 2 weeks. I will continue this even after the donations have been used, however I will have to reduce the frequency and total prizes paid out to a level that my personal budget can afford (I'm no whale.)
Any donations are terribly appreciated and will allow the random fun to continue at it's current level of about 100 Steem given out per week.
I was blown away by the generosity of @riverhead and @pharesim ...which just solidified why they've had my witness vote for so long.
