The VAR would finally award the second goal to France after Paul Pogba's shot came off the under of the bar and crossed the line but was not seen by the officials. The referee after consultation with the VAR decided to award the goal to give France what was definitely their winning goal.
France can qualify for the knockout stages if they defeat Peru in their next game while Australia will need to keep their hopes alive with a must win over Denmark who defeated Peru 1-0.

In the other Group C game played afterwards, Cueva missed a glorious penalty for Peru before Yousuf Poulsen scored the only goal of the game as Denmark grabbed all three points to stay second in Group C.
The Danes could be in the next round of they defeat Australia in their next game.
