Cardiff signed Sala on a record deal in January but the plane carrying the Argentine from Nantes to Cardiff to join up with his new teammates got missing along the English Channel on January 21.

After a few weeks of searching, the striker's body was found dead in the plane wreckage and has since been buried in his native Argentina on February 16.

The Premier League side initially stalled payment as according to club Chariman, Mehmet Dalman, there were some anomalies in the contract that needed to be sorted before they could make payment. This made Nantes threaten legal action.

Nantes however agreed to extending the time for the first instalment but Cardiff have nonetheless defaulted.

A statement released by FIFA states that Nantes has reported the case to a higher authority for intervention.

Cardiff on Monday raised grave concerns over the legality of the aircraft after investigations by the Air Accident & Incident Branch (AAIB).

Investigations show that the aircraft may have fallen below the standard allowed for operation in the UK and US.

Also, the licence and rating of the pilot who is still missing, to undertake such journey is also been questioned.

In an interview, FIFA President, Gianni Infantino said that the appropriate FIFA authorities will handle the issue and he hopes that both club find an agreement over an issue that makes all sad.
