Casillas goodbye to Champions League

Iker Casillas may have played his last game in the Champions League last night. His contract at Porto finishes in summer and he will probably leave Porto and he may not sign for a club which plays Champions League again.
That would mean that his last game was at the Anfield Road - what a great ambiance for that. Liverpool fans have a long held tradition of applauding the visiting goalkeeper, but this time it was louder and more prolonged than usual for a player who will retire at the end of the season. Iker Casillas has thanked Liverpool fans for paying tribute to him after the game.

Here are some statistics of his great career in the Champions League:
He gave his debut on the 15.09.1999. The game was Olympiacos - Real Madrid and ended 3:3. Bodo Illgner was the number 1 then, but as he was injured Casillas had the chance to play his first game.

  • He played 171 games
  • He won 98 games
  • He achieved 59 cleansheets
  • He was part of the team of the year 6 times: From 2007 till 2012
  • He won 3 titles: 1999/2000 - 2001/2002 and 2013/2014

I really hope to see him again as a coach in a Champions League game. It was great having him as keeper and captain.

Please share with me if you have other outsanding statistics I forgot to mention and feel free to share your opinion on Casillas.
