The quiet beauties of our lives

A flower is the reproductive organ of a flowering plant. It attracts insects with its pleasant smell. It has beautiful colors. A flower consists of 4 parts.

1.Flower cover: It protects the reproductive organs from external influences by wrapping them from the outside. It is also called the 'non-productive part' because it does not directly participate in reproduction.

In dicot plants, the flower cover consists of 2 parts: sepals and petals.

Sepal : They are small leaves that are in shades of green or brown at the outermost part of the flower. These leaves protect the flower from external factors while it is in bud.

Petal : It is the most showy part of the flower. It is located outside the reproductive organs. It has an important role in pollination by attracting many living things with its flamboyant structure and colors.

In monocot plants, the flower cover consists of a part called 'tepal'.

  1. Reproductive organs: It ensures the continuity of the generation by fulfilling the reproductive function. For this reason, it is also called the 'productive part'.

Male reproductive organ: It consists of two parts called filament and anther. The filament attaches the anther to the flower; the anther provides pollen formation.

Female reproductive organ: It consists of three parts: ovary, stylus (neck) and stigma (stigma). The ovary is located at the lowest part of the female reproductive organ and bears the ovules of the seeds. The stylus is located in the middle of the female reproductive organ and allows pollen germinated in the stigma to reach the ovary. The stigma, on the other hand, ensures that the pollen that comes with pollination attaches to the female organ and germinates.

  1. Flower stem: Also called pedicel, this part carries the flower.

  2. Flower tray: It is the part on which all flower parts are located. It is also called 'reseptaculum'.

As everyone knows, flowers add beauty to the environment. In addition, it provides the continuity of the plant it is in with the seeds it scatters thanks to the male organ.
