The 7-day payout window frustrates me....

Ok, short rant today.

One of the major issues that I see with Steem, the blockchain, is that the payout window of only 7-days does not incentivize long form, high quality content, but rather shorter, more frequent posts.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. As we, @steemsmarter, attempts to make sense of ALL the variables that are included in the Steem payload, specifically

Write a Steemit Web App: Part 13 - How to Calculate a Vote's RShares

https://steemit.com/steemdev/@jfollas/write-a-steemit-web-app-part-13-how-to-calculate-a-vote-s-rshares

This post really helped us understand the variable "rshares" (aka "reward shares") which is used to determine the percentage of the reward fund that is paid out to the author at the end of the 7 days of voting. Pretty important variable, eh? This helps us determine the current value of a vote and the max value available for an account.

Also, the author @jfollas reminds us that approx 20% of a user's total Voting Power regenerates per day. Thx for the tip, amigo!

All this said, we want to upvote this post and spend some of OUR voting power to benefit the author. Without this post, we may still be looking for an understanding of how to calculate and the significance of rshares....but alas we cannot.

Why can each vote not have it's own 7-day window so that posts can be voted on for a longer amount of time? Is this because of how the post (discussion) is then inserted and saved in to the blockchain along with it's associated parameters and descriptive variables?

Could there be a way to allow for a post to be submitted to the blockchain after 7 days, but then hash it and update the rewards past that time frame? Of course, votes older than 7 days are already locked in and stored in the blockchain, but could new votes still be included somehow?

Learn more about the Steem payload from these posts by our own @thescubageek:

Oh yeah, and give them an UPVOTE before it's too late. Lotta good info there. Thx @thescubageek.

Until next time...Keep Building Freedom!
