It's been almost three weeks since I've posted wildlife photos! Fortunately my last travel gave me the opportunity to add some more photos to my collection. I normally use my bridge camera to take decent photos, so while travelling I hardly post about the cool animals I see; but now that I've finally passed them to the computer...
Here they are! Around lake Como, in Italy, there were plenty of models around, but none as present as the black headed gull. The're not on the breeding season, so the "dark head" in the winter plumage is actually just a dark spot behind the eyes.
Standing in the pontoon, watching people and boats pass by, or standing in water poles, they were everywhere!
For what I saw, most of the water birds near the city of Como are used to human contact, probably used to being fed by the tourists.
Along the margins of the lake, near the city, mute swans and mallards stood waiting for a quick meal, and swimming slowly among the boats.
I honestly don't like this habit of feeding wild animals, apart from disrupting the normal feeding cicles and behaviour, most of the stuff they're offered is not at all healthy. Oh well, but maybe is just the vet in me talking. 😂 One thing for sure thow, I had plenty of photo opportunities right there in the city!
I saw a few of other common species on the city, and while doing some amazing hikes in the area, even a brand new species for me! But those... will feature a future post!
