Making a pleated skirt is very easy and straight forward. Pleated skirts are unique style that is fitted on much type of figure or shapes, whether you are figure eight or coca cola shape pleated skirt will surely look good on you. If all you want to do is make a simple pleated skirt that is very easy to sew, depending on your height, if this skirt is above the kneel it will look more good on you.

Steps you need to take

Make sure to get your machine and any other equipment necessary

• Desired fabric
• Zip
• Thread
• Your tape rule
• Scissors
• Chalk
• Your measurement and any other thing needed

Cut your waistband out using your waist measurement by measuring the circumference of your waist and divide it into half.

For example

  • If my waist is 32inches when I divide it into half it will give me 16inches. Add 2 inches to that number for the seam allowance

  • Make the waistband length at least 4 inches.

Measure from your waist down to where you want the skirt to reach i.e the leght, and minus the waist band you have cut out
Fold the remaining part of the cloth into two equal half parallel to the printed numbers or label on the fabric and cut using the measurement measured.
Now we have the skirt front and back and the waist band front and back.
The cutting is just as simple and straight forward as that. All you need to do now is to get your machine ready with a matched color thread.
With the use of a pressing iron add gumstay to the half of the waistband to make it hold firm and tightly.
Now, all you need to do is to start putting them together.
You can make your pleat like 2 to 3 inches apart depending on the size of fabric you are using.
All you need to do is where each pleat is , fold the fabric back under it one inches in one direction
Pleat both and front and back on each waist band separately, and join the both side placing the front on the back and sew it down by adding zip to the other edge.

Finally hem your skirt.
