Death Years Later

I hate this time of year. My husband and I do not celebrate Christmas. That alone can be stressful. You can't escape it or avoid it. In most cases it wouldn't bother me, however getting looks or being put down because you don't do what people consider normal gets old real quick.

The other big reason I hate this time of year is because it's the anniversary of when my dad passed away. I was a daddies girl all the way! Every year gets a little bit easier but in the same aspect a little harder.

It's been 6 years today that he left us. And for the first time, I didn't spend the day crying. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Does that mean that I have moved on? Does it mean that I don't love him anymore? Does it simply mean that life goes on and I can't hold on to that pain anymore?

I'm not really sure. What I do know is that I miss him everyday. I think about what he would think of my life, from homeschooling his grandson to starting our adventures as home owners and becoming homesteaders. I know he loved us.

Instead of spending the day crying or letting it depress me, I spent the day with Eli. Watching movies, eating junk food and laughing at everything. Now I can look at these pictures and not be sad. But be grateful that I have all of these memories, not just in my head but in photos.

I hope y'all enjoy these photos. They are some of my favorite. Eli was only 2 years old when he Papa died. Unfortunately these are the only things he has to remember him by.

Hug your loved ones! Make sure they know you love them. And remember to seek forgiveness and give forgiveness. Because you might not have a chance to and you will always regret it.
