Another FakeNews Russian Hack 🌀

This time, they admit it... Kinda... (And I think they want a cookie for doing what's right?)

On December 31 2016, The Washington Post published a story claiming that;

 U.S. officials say a Russian hacking operating penetrated a utility in Vermont.

It goes on further;

 A code associated with the Russian hacking operation dubbed Grizzly Steppe by the Obama administration has been detected within the system of a Vermont utility, according to U.S. officials.
While the Russians did not actively use the code to disrupt operations, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a security matter, the discovery underscores the vulnerabilities of the nation’s electrical grid.

The article continues without providing any evidence for this claim. There are a couple of emotional quotes from some politicians, followed by a long presentation of the overall context in which WaPo wants the reader to perceive this story's relevance to reality.

The thing is that about 12 hours ago, and again, without any explanation, the WaPo made an (easily overlooked) addendum to the (still existing,) article;

 Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Russian hackers had penetrated the U.S. electric grid. Authorities say there is no indication of that so far. The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid.

So, how can this be?! Which is it?! "US Officials say a Russian..." or "Authorities say there is no..."

This does not seem like a miscommunication, or an accident, or a misidentified "US official" under the condition of anonymity...

And, just for fun...

Could this (off-grid) laptop, have one day made it to some employee's home for a download frenzy...?

Would our very noble governments ever use each others "code" to hack one another...?

Could language (computer or human,) be used in the same way as a false national flag on a pirate's ship...?
