Black Mirror S4:E2 Arkangel

Black Mirror is a series on Netflix that is based around the darker side of technology in the near future.

Season 4 has been recently released and everyone I know is making their way through each episode.

Arkangel

Season 4 episode 2, Arkangel, revolves around a parent who places a microchip into her young daughter's brain similar to chipping a Dog. However, this new microchip is very high tech, it allows the mother to see out the eyes of her child, she can read the child's heart rate, and mom can even be alerted when stress levels get too high in her child.

Compare This to Cell Phones

I do not carry a cell phone and I am often seen as a rather strange person due to that. Most homeless people have a cell phone, and I even see children riding their bikes while texting and driving.

Usually, when I tell another adult, especially parents, that I do not carry a cell phone, their reaction is this...

"Oh my, it must be so nice not to have any responsibilities."

Then they realize how offensive they sound and they apologize. This has happened to me more than once.

When I talk to parents about their children getting a brand new cell phone, the parents often tell me that they feel much safer like this. They always know where their children are, they can reach out and talk to them at any time. Most parents consider this a very, mandatory norm.

It also happens to gives those parents mobile access to Facebook.

Is There Any Danger In Cell Phones?

Many people are starting to change their minds about this. Recently, multiple Facebook executives have come out to say that Facebook is ruining society and potentially doing something negative to our children.

Even more recently, 2 huge Apple investors came out with a strongly worded letter indicating that Apple needs to find a way to help parents keep children from getting addicted to the iPhone. They cite small problems as a result of childhood addiction to cell phones like a lack of attention, all the way up to very serious problems like depression and suicide.

In Arkangel, Black Mirror S4:E2, we see such problems starting to develop in the child. Society eventually makes the technology illegal and what seemed like a good idea at the time, eventually leads to murder.

Pretty deep stuff that gives us lots to think about. I like that sort of thing in my TV!
