Some time ago we started watching the series "Billions". My girlfriend liked it at first, but at the end of Season 1, she started to get bored, so we stopped the screening. All in all, I was surprised that it lasted so long, because the atmosphere and theme are somewhat similar to "House of Cards", which she did not like at all. Someday I will probably finish this series myself, but now I have other things to watch, so at the moment it is going to be put aside. He's too good to at least not give him a chance. The more so because I love this type of atmosphere and story too much. The comparison to the series with Kevin Spacey is not accidental - both take their topic seriously and implement it correctly. True, there are probably some simplifications in relation to the real world, but they are not very visible + this is the series - the pleasure of watching is more important than full compliance with reality. What matters is the show, the pace of the action, the climate, compliance with the facts is of course important (for some it is less, for others more), but most of all it should not be disturbing. And if it bothers you, the earlier aspects that I mentioned take precedence.
I compared it to "House of Cards" for a reason. Both of these series are not a pleasant, relaxing pastime that is not intellectually engaging. Sure, you can treat them like that, but then most of the fun is lost. Both creations are a story about power, money, people's capabilities, our potential, practical application of manipulation and psychology, generally depicting what wise, non-toxic RedPillers talk about (I emphasize it on purpose, because many of them are either toxic assholes or hurt people). and quite often 1 and 2). I do not know the stock market myself, so in order not to tell nonsense, I will focus on things that I can describe. Contrary to what some circles try to convince us (including, for example, some left-wing, conservative or Catholic), money and power are, in a sense, the most important in the world. I do not deny that emotions and family relationships are important - indeed, in many respects they are important, but a person will not be satisfied with a good word, he may not be able to ensure the safety of his loved ones, if he does not have money, power or some other substitute for strength. Most things can be bought with money, as Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark showed us (yes, I know these examples may seem funny and childish, but it's only about wealth and what you can get from it). Money applies to all of us, if we want to live within the system or we are not ascetics. I'm not saying it's good, but without them it would probably be even worse. Power and hierarchy, in turn, is so strongly built into man that even if the progressive left's wet dreams of demolishing it and creating a new, brave world were realized, people would strive for it anyway. Well, unless it was brainwashed for several generations with totalitarian terror or other such tools. Parents rule children (and even if most radical theses are to be rejected, they do it at least to a certain extent or up to a certain age), the employer rules the employee, credit rules the person, we are in the power of our emotions, ego blah blah blah. I could repeat these and other truisms in different configurations at least a few more times. Generally, if a man wants to be free, he must be rich, and having additional attributes (influence, the ability to manifest strength, knowledge) only strengthens this independence.
The plot focuses primarily on 2 characters, their activities and the inevitable confrontation. They are Chuck Rhoades and Bobby "Ax" Axelrode, an ambitious and uncompromising federal prosecutor and an uncompromising and ambitious banker. One day he gets information that Ax is practicing forbidden practices in the financial markets. He decides to take up risky fun that may end in his success or failure. During the first season, or at least in the episodes I have seen, we watch the prosecutor trying to trap his victim while the billionaire builds up his empire and tries not to lose it, as do his reckless colleagues. Both characters are interesting creations - both in terms of character and acting. They are both charismatic, intelligent, know what they want in life and know (at least theoretically) how to get it. They are also tough and flexible at the same time, thanks to which they can adapt to new conditions. They are sometimes arrogant or cynical, but to such an extent that that is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Practical evidence - Many world leaders or influential historians had at least one of these traits. You do not necessarily have to be a prick (although it is advisable), you just need to be an effective person who consistently cares about achieving your goals. Another proof - many explorers, pioneers, astronauts and sportsmen must show arrogance in some aspect. If only because unwavering faith in your abilities or audacious pursuit of a goal is often rewarded (as long as you do not make mistakes and do what you need to do). The rest of the characters are equally interesting, but due to the nature of this text, I will not write about them.
I will definitely not watch season 1 this year, and probably not in 2022, but sometime I will. I've heard too many positive things about him from people I trust and know they value good work and have a similar taste to mine to ignore. However, I watched so many episodes that I can safely recommend it to you. If, like me, you value the truth about life, or how the world and interpersonal relations work, it is even a must-have.

Fakt, są zapewne pewne uproszczenia względem świata rzeczywistego, ale nie są one zbyt widoczne + to jest serial - ważniejsza jest przyjemność z oglądania niż pełna zgodność z rzeczywistością. Liczy się show, tempo akcji, klimat, zgodność z faktami jest oczywiście istotna (dla jednych mniej, dla innych bardziej), ale przede wszystkim nie powinna ona przeszkadzać. A jeśli przeszkadza, to pierwszeństwo mają wcześniejsze aspekty, które wymieniłem.

Pieniędzmi można kupić większość rzeczy, co pokazał nam Bruce Wayne lub Tony Stark (tak, wiem, te przykłady mogą się wydawać śmieszne i dziecinne, ale chodzi jedynie o bogactwo i co można dzięki niemu uzyskać). Pieniądze dotyczą każdego z nas, jeśli chce się żyć wewnątrz systemu lub nie jesteśmy ascetami. Nie mówię, że to dobrze, ale bez nich byłoby prawdopodobnie jeszcze gorzej. Władza i hierarchiczność z kolei jest tak silnie wbudowana w człowieka, że nawet gdyby zrealizować mokre sny progresywnej lewicy o zdemolowaniu jej i zrobieniu nowego, wspaniałego świata, to ludzie by do niej tak czy siak dążyli. No chyba, że dokonano by kilku-pokoleniowego prania mózgu za pomocą totalitarnego terroru, czy innych tego typu narzędzi. Rodzice władają dziećmi (a nawet gdyby odrzucić większość radykalnych tez, to robią to przynajmniej w pewnym zakresie lub do pewnego wieku), pracodawca włada pracownikiem, kredyt włada człowiekiem, jesteśmy w mocy naszych emocji, ego bla bla bla. Mógłbym powtórzyć te i inne truizmy w rożnych konfiguracjach jeszcze co najmniej kilka razy. Generalnie jeśli człowiek chce być wolny, to musi być bogaty, a posiadanie dodatkowych atrybutów (wpływy, zdolność do manifestacji siły, wiedza) tylko tę niezależność umacnia.
Fabuła skupia się przede wszystkim na 2 postaciach, ich działalności i nieuchronnej konfrontacji. Są to Chuck Rhoades i Bobby "Axe" Axelrode, ambitny i bezkompromisowy prokurator federalny oraz bezkompromisowy i ambitny bankier. Pewnego dnia dostaje informacje o tym, że Axe stosuje zakazane praktyki na rynkach finansowych. Postanawia podjąć ryzykowną zabawę, która może zakończyć się jego sukcesem lub porażką. Podczas pierwszego sezonu, a przynajmniej w tych odcinkach, które widziałem, obserwujemy jak prokurator stara się osaczyć swoją ofiarę, zaś miliarder rozbudowuje swoje imperium i stara się go nie stracić, podobnie jak jego nierozważni koledzy. Obaj bohaterowie są ciekawymi kreacjami - tak w kwestii charakteru, jak i gry aktorskiej. Obaj są charyzmatyczni, inteligentni, wiedzą czego chcą od życia i wiedzą (przynajmniej teoretycznie), jak to uzyskać. Są też twardzi, a jednocześnie giętcy, przez co umieją się adaptować do nowych warunków. Czasami bywają aroganccy, czy cyniczni, ale w takim stopniu, że stanowi to zaletę, a nie wadę. Dowód z życia praktycznego - wielu światowych przywódców lub wpływowych postaci historycznych, posiadało przynajmniej jedną z tych cech. Niekoniecznie trzeba być chujem (choć jest to wskazane), wystarczy być skutecznym człowiekiem, który konsekwentnie dba o realizację swoich celów. Kolejny dowód - wielu odkrywców, pionierów, astronautów, czy sportowców musi przejawiać w jakimś aspekcie arogancję. Choćby dlatego, że niezachwiana wiara w swoje umiejętności lub zuchwałe dążenie do celu jest często wynagradzana (o ile rzecz jasna nie popełniamy błędów oraz robimy wszystko, co trzeba). Reszta bohaterów jest niemniej ciekawa, ale z uwagi na rodzaj tego tekstu, nie będę o nich pisał.
Na pewno nie obejrzę 1 sezonu w tym roku, w 2022 zapewne też nie, ale kiedyś tak. Słyszałem o nim zbyt wiele pozytywnych rzeczy od ludzi, którym ufam i wiedzą, że cenią sobie dobre dzieła i mają zbliżony gust do mojego, by go zignorować. Obejrzałem jednak tyle odcinków, że mogę go spokojnie Wam polecić. Jeśli podobnie jak ja cenicie sobie prawdę na temat życia, czy tego jak funkcjonuje świat i relacje międzyludzkie, to jest to wręcz pozycja obowiązkowa.
