You have to drive that Tesla for 8 Years before you break even on the energy to build the batteries

I heard an amazing fact on Chirs Martenson's channel in which he stated that the energy required to build a 100 KWh battery pack for a Tesla is equivalent to the amount of CO2 that the average gas car puts out in 8 years! That does not count the CO2 required to generate the electricity needed to charge the car. Wow. Also, it is probable that the battery pack will need to be replaced just as it reaches the 8 year break-even point.
Clearly electric cars, while they may be neat, are not a solution to the energy problem, they are part of the problem.
