While recruiters and hiring managers may check out during the holidays, there are several ways you can continue to hunt for a new gig. Instead of sending resumes, I would suggest that you use the season to take advantage: sign up for volunteering opportunities, try to score invitations to friends' company holiday parties, and talk to family members about your search.
Just as in Newton's first law of motion which states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force, the more typical paths to employment may go dormant in December, but the good advantage about this is you can still network your way to new opportunities by riding the natural social waves of the holiday which is the external force to compel the dormancy.
