What is the Most Important Thing that Should Concern Everyone on the Steemit Platform?

We all are enjoying our connections that has made steemit possible via the internet. But what if suddenly we had no connection?

What if we suddenly could not access our money in our bank account?
What if we could not purchase food at our local grocery store?
What if we could not turn on our lights?
What if we could not flush our toilet?
What if we could not purchase gas for our car?
What if we could not charge our electric car?

This list goes on and on and on. Just use your imagination as to all the benefits we enjoy today from the grid. The grid that connects all of these modern electronic services in our world today. Our present world and all of our commerce depends on the safety of the grid system(s).

Most of us don’t think too much about it until we have a power outage. This happens occasionally to most of us because of a storm that damages the power lines. Usually we are only out of power for short period of time, maybe an hour or two, and it is repaired and all is well again. In 2012 we had a massive ice storm in the Pacific Northwest, and our power was out for four days. I’ll tell you what, the house got mighty cold. The thermostat said 48 degrees the last time I remember checking it.

I am sure many of you have experienced an extensive power outage in which it really became uncomfortable. If you have not experienced a long power outage, count yourself lucky. We are so used to our modern conveniences that we don’t give it a thought. We simply turn on our light switch, go online and access all of our financial information, connect and find out news online, call anyone anywhere around the world. But this could all be gone very very quickly. It is frightening, but it is real!

The book “One Second After” https://www.amazon.com/Second-After-John-Matherson-Novel/dp/0765356864/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1518291020&sr=1-1&keywords=One+Second+After
is a novel, but is based on pure fact of what could happen. It may be available at your local library if you do not want or cannot purchase it. I found it at my library.

The author of this book, William R. Forstchen, has done extensive research on this topic, and his warnings are absolutely dire. Our grid that makes all of our electronic things work could be hit by a powerful EMP, an electromagnetic pulse by an enemy such as a North Korean attack, or it could be wiped out by a strong CME, a coronal mass ejection, from the sun.

And the thing is, our United States government could authorize funds to protect our grid that would greatly improve our chances of avoiding such a catastrophe. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/new-worries-about-apocalyptic-emp-attacks-give-congressional-committee-fresh-life/article/2641574Congress has been informed; in fact Congress has recommended that everyone read the book, “One Second After”. As you will notice this book was written in 2011, so it’s been a few years now. And still no action to protect our grid.

Very wealthy individuals such as Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, or Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, whose businesses use and are totally dependent on the safety and reliability of the grid could fund such a project, but where are their voices on this issue. Steemit is totally dependent on the safety of the grid, as well as all cryptocurrency.

William Forester has written two more books, “One Year After” in 2016 https://www.amazon.com/One-Year-After-Matherson-Novel/dp/0765376717/ref=bseries_primary_1_0765376717
and his latest, “The Final Day” in 2017 https://www.amazon.com/One-Year-After-Matherson-Novel/dp/0765376717/ref=bseries_primary_1_0765376717

“The Grid” is another great book about the fragility of our energy system. https://www.amazon.com/Grid-Fraying-Between-Americans-Energy/dp/1632865688/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

Chris Pike with his “Unexpected World” series is a great resource for the reality of the devastation that is possible, all too possible, if action is not taken to protect our grid. https://www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B06XD1GHWG/ref=dp_st_1534742913

It seems a human thing to avoid an issue until calamity strikes such as providing traffic lights at a particularly dangerous location until several incidents have happened, including deaths, or car manufacturers who ignore safety issues until they are hit with lawsuits. I hope we are not going to have to learn this hard lesson that will truly change the world; in fact, it is predicted that if a powerful EMP or CME should hit our grid, most of the people would die within a year.

Ask the people who experienced Katrina or the people in Puerto Rico who experienced Maria about life without the grid. All stemmians are at risk. What if everyone’s work on this platform were gone and no one could connect?

One can learn how to implement actions to personally protect their own property and equipment at http://www.futurescience.com/emp/emp-protection.html but without the grid, what?
