Don't expect Musk to follow through with is virtue signalling.

It's hard to create a social platform that is both a place of public record where anyone can say anything and a curated community that incentivizes high quality content and interactions. Hell, we've been at it here for 6 years and whilst things are better, anyone who thinks social and societal phenomena's behave in linear ways would get a rude awakening.

Anyway, Twitter's existing management has not done a good job on either of these fronts, let alone both. I'm not convinced that Musk is able to produce top-quality original thinking on this topic and its more likely he'll use Twitter as an access bargaining chip to get what he wants for personal purposes or to advance the agendas of his other companies.

In other words, rather than taking a principle approach, he'll probably just make it more chaotic and worse.

As evidence, here's Musk cozying up to Brazil's far-right Bolsonaro, perhaps to get access to a new launch location for SpaceX.

"Bolsonaro, a far-right nationalist, has blasted major social media platforms for their efforts to combat disinformation, including taking down his baseless comments linking COVID-19 vaccines to developing AIDS. Musk, who Bolsonaro called a "legend of liberty," has vowed to defend free speech on Twitter."

"Bolsonaro also said that he was making Brazil's Alcântara space base near the equator available to Musk's rockets."

I wish Musk would stick to his strengths (bold deep tech startups) and not mess around in culture, politics, and social media.
