Catharsis is an open love letter to braindance. Operating more on the logic of “scene” than “track,” don’t expect to be gridlocked into a groove for 80 minutes. Rather, as its homage suggests, being left to try to keep up and play catch-up with every new detuned bass solo, spastic break, and holistically warped groove is the norm here. As a general thesis, the effect of constantly reimagining the melodic and rhythmic source material makes for some incredibly intricate and inherently interesting content. Clearly almost nothing is left without a hell of a lot of attention most evidenced in … Fuck it, you just have to listen to it all. However, as a saving grace Orient Osmosis, Blur, Allegory, and Counter offer an incredibly well balanced 25 minutes that while hardly summarizes the other 10 tracks, may just prepare you for it.
