Notice that the possessive pronouns, ours, yours, hers, theirs, its, do not require apostrophes, unlike the common or proper nouns they replace

Examples

  1. Jame's bicycle becomes his bicycle.
  2. The cat's tail becomes his tail.
  3. The bicycle belongs to James. it is his.
  4. The house belongs to us. it is ours.
  5. The books belong to them. they are theirs.

Note: Remember that it's means it is.
