Over the past decade, new technologies have had a strong astronomical impact on the economy. The advances and limitations of the technology industry have not always been better. The negatives of all these victories in man vs. machine come with their problems and price. These collapses are not over yet, and we can expect a global struggle at the hands of technology in the near future. Technology has been used as a robber in many ways, from jobs to copyrighted property. With unrestricted sources such as the Internet, ways to slow down this moral carnage are few and far between.
Even communications have repeatedly revolutionized progress today. The ever-increasing mobile phone function is increasing at an incredible rate year after year. When introduced into society in the 1980s, mobile phones were rarely used. It was huge and very expensive to keep. Twenty years later, that same concept built the idea of mobile communications can not only be found in the hands of corporate executives, but the children of part-time dishwashers. The resources needed to get and activate the cell phone have drastically decreased, and still do so with the technology becoming more and more available (James M. O'Neill). Students will study vision, interpretation and action in the plays of Macbeth and Hamlet. Through textual analysis and writing, students explore the intersection of vision and knowledge as presented in the two plays. In the current technological age, it is increasingly important to think critically about what offers us online, cell phone, and television. My 11th and 12th grade students use these forms of communication daily. I intend to use classical literature to connect what we see, how we interpret it, and how we interact with it. Using Hamlet and Macbeth and the central texts, the class evaluates how the characters Hamlet and Macbeth base their actions on visions that may or may not be true. In the cases of Hamlet and Macbeth, the decisions they make are based on what they see as serious consequences.
