The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 7, DTube Video #2

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Continuing with Genesis 7:5-9

The flood waters came upon the earth when Noah was six hundred years old. We read that his wife, his sons, and their wives, "went into the ark from the face of the flood waters." That is the most direct translation.

The ESV English interprets the same line "went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood." This is a valid way of saying the same thing, but the hebrew uses the words the face of, giving us the sense that these select few, who were righteous, did not have to face the horrific extinction of all else.

There will come a day, likely sooner than we think, when God will make an escape for those who have chosen to seek Him so that they need not face His wrath. Some say that it is out of character for the Creator to offer an escape to those who serve Him. The story of Noah, Joseph, Exodus, Jonah, and on and on show otherwise.
