Pequi - cerrado brazilian

The pequi (Caryocar brasiliense), also called pequi, piqui, piquiá and pequiá, is a tree of the cariocaráceas family native to the Brazilian cerrado. Its fruit is very used in the backwoods cuisine. From him, an oil called "pequi oil" is extracted. Its fruits are also consumed cooked, pure or along with rice and chicken. Its core is endowed with many thorns, and care is taken when gnawing the fruit, avoiding to prick the teeth, which can cause serious injuries to the gums and palate. The taste and aroma of the fruits are very striking and peculiar. The fruit can be preserved in both essence and canned.
