Garota de Ipanema

Rio de Janeiro, known by the name of Wonderful City, has been the birthplace of great musicians and in it important musical genres have been born whose fame has reached all corners of the world. On the one hand, the Samba with its joy and color has become the hallmark of the famous Rio Carnival and on the other, the Bossa Nova with its soft and delicate rhythms, which for decades have been singing the beauty of the city and of everything in it.

But if we talk about the Bossa Nova, one song stands out above all the others, a song that has almost become a hymn for the city: "Garota de Ipanema", in English, the girl from ipanema

Written by Vinicius de Moraes and with music by Tom Jobim, La Chica de Ipanema is one of the most versioned songs of all time. It has been sung by Frank Sinatra, Cher, Madonna and even by Amy Winehouse (who made a version that was included in his posthumous album).

The Girl from Ipanema had (and has) her own name: Heloísa Eneida Menezes Paes Pinto, more simply known as Helô Pinheiro.

Although Helô was the true inspiration for the song, the title of Chica de Ipanema has become an institution for Rio de Janeiro and a symbol for Brazil. Maybe that's why, during the opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympics, neither the song nor one of the most famous women in the country could be missing.

During that unforgettable night, Gisele Bündchen was the Girl from Ipanema and the elegant ride she took crossing the Maracanã Stadium to the rhythm of the well-known melody song, made history.
