It’s Like Spotify or iTunes, but Better
@DSound is web platform that enables its users to discover, upload, and listen to music that is accumulated on the IPFS network. This application utilizes the Steem blockchain as a decentralized platform in order to let those users earn rewards in Steem.
Upon entering the website, one can log in using their Steemit account. When uploading your musical content, it provides a simple template where there is a drag-and-drop menu, providing an option to include a cover picture, and drop a few sentences for the blockchain before publishing.
How can it Change the Industry?
In the perspective of a music artist or DJ, it is very difficult to make an income with their respective music with an online business these days. A platform that allows the user to publish their own works, while receiving feedback from the community and making a little money on top would be ideal. Even though there are various centralized options such as SoundCloud, Youtube, Apple Music, or Spotify, they have the power to take down any of your music for whatever reasons and gaining popularity as an indie musician is very difficult to achieve.
It’s a bigger problem for DJs because most or if not all of their sets or remixes involve using fair use of copyrighted materials. But due to the large constraints of YouTube or SoundCloud, these uploads are taken down very quickly, with usually no questions asked. These platforms do not give DJs a chance to promote exposure of their work, which serve to promote the authors or give them a different use.
