So today I learned that if I was sentenced for a drug related crime in some parts of the US I could be ordered to work full time residentially or a corporation for free (I.e. - less than I would get paid if I had a job in prison) for up to a year. All whilst being 'saved' from my addiction by some token amateur counselling and a dollop of faith when neither interfered with my working. Also if was injured then compensation would be claimed for me and kept by the company even if my injuries were life changing.
Americans are consistanly some of the most generous 'givers' in the world when it comes to time spent volunteering or charitable donations so this genuinely bemuses me; not the corporations they are established to be psychopathic entities by any measure but that people tolerate this. Maybe some people are still seen as subhuman?
