Friend went a bit crazy on his first time weed + nitrous oxide

So this happened a few weeks ago...

A friend and me took 300mg DXM each and had another friend come over to tripsit us a bit and try weed with for his first time. Let´s call him Tom. I gave him 1g of Phenibut to prevent anxiety, he has tried that once before that experience (750mg). Tom is more experienced with alcohol than me and I introduced him to nitrous oxide.
We vaped and then began to crack some whippets while listening to mostly trap and frenchcore.

Maybe that wasn´t the best environment for him but I thought he could handle himself. After a bit he started to hyperventilate for a bit longer into the balloon and sort of blacked out. Then he described his "trips" as seeing different pictures or scenes of chinese genitalia and as if he was somewhere else in a room full with people talking to them.

After a few capsules he stood up and try to get past me (3 people on a small couch with a little table infront so he couldn´t stand up normally) and almost tripped. Then he went on to inhale the balloon in a corner of the room. I also stood up and asked him what´s wrong and why the fuck he is trying to do the balloon in the corner. He said "because voices told me to".
All of that shit freaked us two a bit out and I watched him for the rest of the day that he consumed the rest normally without hyperventilating too much, maybe I wouldn´t let him consume more if I was sober but we were both fucked up and confused on dxm and didn´t really get what was happening. Also we thought he could trip sit us and not the other way around lol. But thankfully our combination wasn´t so stressful on us.

I never had any major hallucinations from nitrous except echoing, music enhancment and a floting in space sensation.
So my question is did he have a psychotic break or just some hallucinations because of the combination with no tolerance to weed?
