What is going on guys. Today, I wanna talk about using the Real Name versus the UserName.

In regarding of distinguishing us on an online network, usernames have a tendency to be the tradition of a decision, giving individuals the choice of recognizing themselves as they pick.

Personally, I am using my real name most of the time even when I play video games in my high school days rather than a username or code name.

I notice that 80% are using the username or the code name so I research more which is the best to use especially in this community so we can maximize all the potential of which is the more appropriate to use.

I broken it down to pros and cons and mention some of the personality that maybe you probably know.

If you can't play the video above, you can watch it from here.

Disclaimer: This post is nothing to do but just an educational information for all of us. It wasn't created to attack or to offend anybody. With that being said let's get it on.

Real Name
So first thing first is the real name. We know some of the known person here using the real name like the Steemit CEO Ned Scott using his real name @ned, the Steemit co-found Dan Larimer as @dan and others like @jerrybanfield, @joeparys, @hilarski, @evanrvoss and many more

Here are the Pros.

Pros

  1. Familiarity. When people are engaging to the community using their real name there is a feeling of familiarity in the person that feels you are talking to the real person.

  2. More Professional Appearance. Also with the Profile photo gives us a more professional way to do it. Linkedin is one of the social media I use that is more professional. I can they are more attractive to a professional audience.

  3. More reliable. When we speak out using our real name it encourages us to be more careful to whatever we do and speak. Tracking is real thing when it comes to Real names. One of the reasons youtube comments are full of hate speech as we can hardly see who is behind the computer.

Here are the Cons.

Cons

  1. Less Privacy. Every time you engage with community anyone can track you down. Even your past bad experiences can be tracked. Some still remember all the things you have done wrong when you are just starting things out here like plagiarism. We all made mistake and can improve as time passes by but for some people, they hardly forget this few mistakes.

  2. Less anonymity. All your comments are backed by your real name so you need to be more careful in every comment you will make.

That was it for the real name. Let us now talk about the Pros and Cons using the Username. I can say 80% of the people in this community are using a username, a few examples of this are the like of @kpine, @glitterfart, @sweetsssj, @teamsteem and @acidyo.

Here are the Pros.

Pros

  1. Having a privacy. Privacy is a big issue when it comes to a social media. We may all have heard what happened to the privacy issue regarding in Facebook. One of the reasons we may want to use a Username rather than a Real name.

  2. Less Hesitant to Post. People are less hesitant to post anything or say anything without thinking twice. For some, this is their advantage to post anything. Reasons why people prefer the username.

Here are the Cons of using Username.

Cons

  1. Could be scammy. Some are using the code name or username to scam some people. However, I believe 99% of users here are legit especially people who posted a good introductory post. The community loves to see people holding a Steemit paper with his username written on it together with the date they joined on this platform.

  2. Some people sign up with the username using a keyword like "cake" or "ramen" or "crypto" on their name but later transition what they post to something else. Sometimes it gives your audience some confusion. I watched one time about the Youtube channel of Sunny Decree and find it out that his username here is @foodnature. Although he is known who talks about cryptocurrency it gives me little confusion about his official account.

Conclusion

So to my conclusion, in the end of day, it is still up to you to choose which will fit your necessity. If you want to post more anonymously or using your real name. My advice is to choose a name that will be easy write up because on Steemit your name is also your wallet address where all your transaction will be made.
