Shared From Dlike

"How Couples Meet" chart, updated July 2019.

From the conclusion: "Internet dating has displaced friends and family from their former roles as key intermediaries in the formation of new unions."

We used to rely on intimates to screen our future partners. Today, that's work we do ourselves.

Behold the decline of stranger danger.

In 1940, ~80% of couples met through family, friends or elementary/high school.

Today, ~67% meet online or at bars.

About 65% of same‐sex couples who met in 2017 met online, compared to about 39% for heterosexual couples.
