A fun weekend project to clean up my yard after Ive cleaned up my life from heroin.
*I know this is not much of a recovery post but I found a new love of bloging and just want to keep everyone on their toes with my pages content
I spend most of my time when Im home in my back yard on my patio. Nothing is better for my sanity than spending some time out in the fresh air after a long day of work. Not that any day of work is the same for me and Im so grateful all of my different projects. But after long office meetings under fluorescent with recycled air, stressful interventions with families that are going through heart ache and everything in-between. There is no better place to unwind than on my back patio.
Now most of the time I just end up doing more work on my laptop and take calls. Regardless I spend most of my time home out on my back patio. So it should come as no surprise that i want it looking as nice as possible. As it originally sat it was anything but nice. Just take a look at the pictures here in this part 1 DIY of my back yard make over.
She would show me how much she enjoyed playing in the mud by tracking her muddy puppy paws all over my house.
Once the soil was prepped for sod it was time to get my hands dirty and lay the sod. It is important to loosen the top 6 to 8 inches of soil and mix in rich compost. It is also recommend to soak the ground to help the roots set.
Once the sod was laid Baby needed to inspect and make sure everything was to her likings.
With the fresh grass laid it only made the other part of my yard an even bigger eye soar.
When Baby had her puppy friends over to play they really did a number to the already spotty stone garden. They needed to be replaced.
Which allowed me to take a trip to one of my favorite stores. One of the biggest toy stores for us big kids. The one and only Home Depot, the store where you will walk in to buy a screw and walk out ready to remodel your whole bathroom.
I was covering a rather large area with rocks and at this time I wished I never got rid of my truck. On the bright side I was able to see what my car would look liked lowered... Might be doing a whole new post on lowering cars another time 😉
After the 3rd trip from Home Depot with the car filled with rocks, Baby and I took a well earned nap.
Then the fun part of caring all the bags of rocks to my back yard.
Immediately once I started dumping the rocks things started to look better.
It truly was like night and day.
I didnt have the stones go all the way to the back or as in this picture to the left beacuse i stil was not sure what projects the future held for me back there.
As you can see the contrast between the beautiful green gras and the white stones really cheered up the place. The nice lush gras fells amazing In-between your toes and i went with smother white stones so the sun wouldn’t heat them up to much and i would still be able to walk on them. More importantly Babys paws would be safe aswell.
I felt like I got a lot done in one day and was really pleased with the results.
However after talking it over with baby we quickly decided that the flower bed had to go.
That will be part 2 of my backyard make over.
I have found that after 10 years of heroin active addiction our minds focused on one single thing, the next fix. If you can learn to keep your mind focus your mind on new things and keep it busy in other areas then it will be easier to overcome addiction. Its my random projects like these that have helped me overcome my own addiction.
