Why stand on the shoulders of giants when you can walk along (hand-in-hand) with the army?!
Queens and Kings... pawns no more!
"Content is King" as they say, but we are not living on a chessboard so while we are creating quality content let us not be pawns (pun intended) to the publishing and advertising giants.
As I have been observing Steemit Philippines' for a while now on Discord @steemph, I can't help but notice that most (if not all) content creators have been producing great quality piece on blog sites, wordpress, facebook, medium and youtube (to name a few) way before they started steemit. Indeed, we have a pool of awesome people, writers, musicians, bloggers, educators, video editors, film producers but can't get that break they endlessly aimed... not to mention the sustainability of producing quality contents.
For all intents and purposes, I'm referring specifically on the monetization aspect.
How much do you earn posting on the publishers i mentioned above? That's right, not even a significant amount (and passion can't bring food on the table). If you are persistent enough, you would spend more efforts on promotion, SEO, marketing etc just to get the "nickels and dimes". Instead of focusing your energy for creating quality content, you'll end up burning out from all the bureaucracy imposed by these Giants... them getting the fruits of your labor while you sit back getting cents or none at all.
Towards Decentralization
Steemit flips the model of the privately controlled social network on its head by embodying a platform that returns the value of contribution to its users.
With Steemit, bloggers, writers, editors found a new home where they get what they deserve. The rewards system of steemit have benefited all fronts which is apparent on the rapid increase of its adoption. But do we stop here?
Needs Improvement
- Wait, there's more we can do! How about videos, images, softwares and other digital contents?
- What if we can monetize them as well? What if we can publish other digital contents like this beautiful voice (credits to @Dreamiely) and earn money? all without the central authority and middle men? Monetization follows the Steemit model - you earn money for great contents and you earn money for promoting great contents!
- What if instead of netflix, or spotify we can consume digital media at a fraction of a cost? benefiting both creators and consumers?
