Next Up - Matej Mohorič!

Having won his first Grand Tour Stage in 2017 at La Vuelta, Mohorič has gone from strength to strength and looks like he could have a real breakthrough season in 2019. Not an obvious choice for a rider to look out for this year, but I admire the guy a lot so I thought I'd feature him!

How did he perform in 2018?

For a 24-year-old he did incredibly well. He repeated his Grand Tour Stage success of 2017, winning Stage 10 at the Giro d'Italia in remarkable fashion. Other victories included GP Industria & Artigianto back in March and the Slovenian National Road Race in June.

He also had some wonderful GC results; winning the Binck Bank Tour & the Deutschland Tour. On top of that, Mohorič managed some commendable finishes at a few of the Classics - 11th at Strade Bianche, 25th at Milan-Sanremo & 7th at Giro della Toscona.

What can we expect him to win in 2019?

It appears that he has a later start to his season than most of the pro-peleton, with his first race being a week into February. It's also nice to see that instead of the Giro & Vuelta that he has ridden in 2018 & 2017 respectively, Bahrain are letting him ride the Tour.

There's no doubt he'll continue GC success this year. His home Tour (Tour of Slovenia) and Tour de Pologne look like great bets for him, assuming that neither of the Yates brothers decide to ride in Poland like Adam did last year! His March schedule looks very hectic and he's been penned in to a lot of Classics - I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate but if it is, he'll definitely be wanting to get some good results under his belt. Gent - Wevelgem or Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne would match his abilities!
