As well as tea talua, another type of drink typical of West Sumatra, this dish uses egg yolks as the main component racikannya. Although both use egg yolks, there are several different things in the compounding technique of talua coffee when compared to tea talua. Differences are among others at the stage of egg whisking. On coffee talua, egg yolks that have been separated from white are included in a glass of sweetened condensed milk and added a teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

This mixture is then shaken until evenly distributed, then added hot water as steeping coffee. Water steaming coffee serves to ripen the eggs while shaking takes place. This process creates a soft texture of the foam on this drink.
