Today is "Laxmi Pooja" - Third Day Of Tihar Festival (Gai Tihar) -

Hello, steemians today i'm writing about Laxmi Pooja which is being celebrated in Nepal today on the third day of Tihar Festival, the second biggest festival for Nepalese Hindu people.

According to Hindu epics, Laxmi is the Godness of wealth and prosperity. The third day of Tihar Festival is Laxi Pooja day( Laxmi worship day). This day is commonly also known as Gai Tihar( Cow worship day).

Godness Laxmi and Cows are worshiped on this day.

In Hinduism, the cow is a sign of prosperity, holiness and wealth. On the morning of this day, after taking holy bath, people express their gratitude to cows by garlanding and feeding them with delicious and hay.

The people of religion have high regards for not only the cow’s milk, but even its dung and urine. Cow’s urine is used to perform many Hindu religious rituals to achieve purification.

Goddess Laxmi loves cleanliness and purity. Therefore, it is very important to keep one's house clean and pure during Laxmi puja (and even always as possible).

Houses are cleaned and the doorways and windows are decorated with garlands made of marigolds and chrysanthemums. It is believed that goddess Laxmi visits those houses, which are very clean and pure shining with burning lights.

According to Hindu Holy epics, goddess Laxmi is the daughter of rishi Bhrigu. When gods were sent to exile by the demons she took refuge in the ocean of milk. She was found during “Samundra Manthan”. Goddess Laxmi is believed to be the goddess of good fortune, wealth, beauty, and light. It is said the blessing of Laxmi is always with those who do hard work.

In the evening, is Laxm Puja when the goddess of wealth is thanked for all the benefits that were blessed on the families throughout the years. On this special night oil lamps & candles are lit along doorways and window sills to welcome prosperity and well being.
Starting this day till a couple of days that follow, Entire houses are lit up with fairy lights. Children enjoy fireworks. After finishing Laxmi pooja,, girls and boys form groups and go around the houses in the neighborhood singing and dancing to Deusi and Bhailo songs, in praise of goddess Laxmi. When girls and boys come to sing Deusi Bhailo from door to door, in every house, these singers are welcomed, offered delicious foods , sweets and money, and people dance together with them.

I'll Be posting Pictures from Laxmi Pooja Tomorrow.
