American lawmakers will come to Switzerland to discuss regulation of cryptocurrencies

A six-person delegation will meet with the Federal Commissioner for Data and Information Protection, Adrian Lobsiger, to exchange views with him on digital currencies. The main topic of discussion will be the Libra cryptocurrency developed by Facebook.

The delegation is headed by Maxine Waters, Chairman of the Financial Services Committee, who previously called on Facebook to suspend Libra's development while regulators examine the associated risks.

During the visit, U.S. lawmakers intend to clarify a number of issues related to the regulation of Libra. At the hearings in July, some of them expressed fears that the project was registered in Switzerland.

In the same month, the Swiss Federal Commissioner for Data and Information Protection reported that he never received a response to his request to Libra, even though it was registered in a jurisdiction under his control.

Shortly before that, Facebook announced that it would not launch Libra's cryptocurrency until it "completely removes all regulators' doubts".
