Could Golem be the future of supercomputing?

Brief Description:

“Golem is a global, open source, decentralized supercomputer that anyone can access. It is made up of the combined power of users’ machines, from PCs to entire data centres.”

Aim:

The aim of Golem is to establish a worldwide market for computing power to help integrate new software for the future and provide assistance to Internet providers. This market would help make access to computational services much easier as the cost would dramatically decrease for everybody.

Positives:

In a modernized world which is constantly being innovated by technology, Golem has the potential to grow significantly and have a major impact on society. Golem claims it will be able to change the world through allowing people to use its supercomputer for machine learning, scientific computing, business analytics, microservices, computer graphics and more.

Using Golem an individual who is required to complete a task such as CGI rendering in a fast amount of time will be able to pay for the services of a supercomputer network and have their project rendered in a fraction of the time that they could have achieved it with their limited resources. These services would be completed by a network of users who would be paid for their computing power.

Many of the things which Golem aims to assist with its network are speculated to be the future of technology and modern society. If Golem can live up to their promise it is certain that the value of the network will be significant to society.

Negatives:

Golem as a project is still in its infancy and is yet to demonstrate that it will be able to achieve what is stated for the later years of its plan. Investing in a project like this so early in its plan can increase the risk of the investment and until the network is able to achieve more of the goals which it has set there will be some uncertainty surrounding Golem.

Another problem with the network is that Golem will be unable to ensure that projects being created on the network remain confidential. The provider of the computing power may be able to uncover what their machine is helping create exposing client information. Due to this issue developers will be forced to make all efforts to harness confidential information extremely tedious to the point at which individuals have no interest to accumulate the private information.

Summary:

Golem has enormous potential to become a worldwide supercomputer which could greatly help society increase the rate at which it creates modern technology.

The project may have substantial goals but with the amount of opportunity for Golem to succeed it looks like a great long-term investment.
