Crypto Read/Watch/Listen Picks: new Date(2/11/2018)

Each week, I compile the most useful links to articles, posts, and videos that helped me to level up my knowledge of Bitcoin, cryptos, blockchain, and levelling up in life.

On to the picks:

  1. Metaphysical Mycelium Mushroom Minds Of Planet Earth...: I'm fascinated by networks and all the ways the network pattern emerges: social networks, distributed networks, etc... Years ago, my mind was blown when I heard about mycelium networks (fungi) that worked synergistically in forests to shuttle nutrients around in a way that seemed to have an intelligence. In this post, @perceptualflaws explores mycelium networks in parallel with neural networks. I find it intersting to imagine currency spreading efficiently through a network like this to wherever it's needed and best used. New to me was the Tokyo subway experiment:

The scientists were stunned to observe that far from imitating, the slime had actually constructed a nutrient transfer network that was even more efficient than the Tokyo underground.

  2. Lightning Network Visualization: While we're thinking about networks, this is amazing to see, and amazing to imagine it growing and spreading. It's the Lightning Network on the main network (not the test network). And devs are quick to provide this haiku as a warning that it's not ready for us average folks yet.

    only a fool shall
    find themselves try the lightning
    strike mainnet fiercely

  3. Here’s the Solution to the 3-Year-Old, $50,000 Bitcoin Puzzle: On 4/3/2015, an artist tweeted a painting containing a puzzle with nearly 5 BTC attached to it. Three years later, someone finally solved it. This is the story, how it worked, and how it was solved.

  4. How The Economic Machine Works by Ray Dalio: This half-hour animated video is a great introduction into our economic cycles, particulary the credit boom/bust cycle. Even if you're not terribly interested, this video is explained so simply and clearly that it's worth the time.

  5. Do the Work by Steven Pressfield: In commenting on @introspector's post, I was reminded of my favorite all-time book to get yourself unstuck on a creative project, especially writing. This book is well worth reading if you're trying to break through the resistance that holds you back.

We’ll hit every predictable Resistance Point along the way—those junctures where fear, self-sabotage, procrastination, self-doubt, and all those other demons we’re all so familiar with can be counted upon to strike.

Where butts need to be kicked, we shall kick them. Where kinder, gentler methods are called for, we’ll get out the kid gloves.
