Ledger, the widely known hardware wallet manufacturer, announced recently that they will support the cryptocurrencies NANO, and Nimiq, a blockchain technology venture that claims to be the world’s first browser based blockchain. Nimiq’s token on the market is called the Nimiq Exchange Token [NET].

Ledger had recently said that they do would no longer support paid integration, but instead welcomed developers to use the Software Development Kit [SDK] to build integrations. The list of altcoins that Ledger supports grows with Litecoin [LTC], Dogecoin [DOGE], Neo [NEO], and ZenCash [ZEN] already being on the list of cryptocurrencies supported by Ledger devices.

Third party apps developed to allow using Nano and Nimiq are available on the Ledger Manager, the announcement also read. The Ledger Manager is like an app store, where one can install, update or uninstall applications on the wallet devices, like Nano S or Blue. The Ledger Manager is a Chrome Extension, and called a ‘management app’. There is another kind of app available for the device, called ‘wallet apps’, using which one can manage accounts, and send and receive payments.

Ledger is a leader in wallet security technology, and the biggest selling point of all Ledger devices is the safety and security that they offer.

Until the recent 1.4 firmware update, only 4 apps could be stored. This meant the user could only deal with four cryptocurrencies at the same time, whilst having to uninstall and install other apps as and when necessary. Since many cryptocurrencies use the Bitcoin blockchain, the new firmware update will refactor all common codes in the library and could host up to 18 apps at the same time, it claimed.

The device memory is a global limitation, and using apps that utilize completely different code bases will limit the number of apps to 4 or 5.

Dave Pazden jokes on Twitter:

“you can now put nano on your nano, that will be fun explaining & clarifying the diff. for you support inquiries”

Easty, a Twitter user, responds to a query about which app to use from Ledger Manager:

“Ive found out. The only one is Nanovault wallet and is uses the nano app on the ledger to access it.”
