The Conservative Canon

Required terms for understanding the modern-day Conservative Canon:

  1. G.O.P. – aka, Republican Party, a bunch of good old party boys who play
    at politics.

  2. Conservative movement – often confused with personal political regularity, its real meaning is the tendency of voters to choose mediocre, plain-Jane candidates instead of flashy failed ones who tend to talk a good game but never seem to deliver.

  3. Free trade - a specific economic policy which regulates markets so they’re free
for them and not for you.

  4. Christian Right – a common Canon belief system within the Conservative
Movement that espouses voting with God is always the right thing to do.

  5. Country Club Republican – a member of the G.O.P. who lets others calculate
    his golf handicap.

  6. Neocons – born-again progressives.

  7. Reganesque – political posturing by a Neocon.

  8. Pre-emptive strike or war – two terms nearly banned from the Conservative Canon.

  9. New Federalism – a '60's political initiative pushed by Ronald Regan that thought
local governments should be so empowered that they did almost everything
except manage free trade and pre-emptive wars.

  10. Vulture capitalism – another banned term meaning profiting by picking clean
    the bones of one’s competitors.

  11. Tax cuts - a sacred tenet in Conservative Canon Law.

  12. Hedge fund trading - a God-given, inalienable right overlooked by the
    Founding Fathers.

  13. Conservative talk show hosts – a group of entertainers making a living as
political pundits who persuade people to believe more firmly that the world
    is out to get them.
